PSH Overview
Permanent supportive housing (PSH) is a housing option that combines long-term housing assistance with wraparound supportive services.
What is Permanent Supportive Housing?
Permanent supportive housing is a type of housing that pairs affordable housing with supportive services. It is targeted at households where at least one member has a qualifying disability and the household lacks the resources to access stable housing. Though there is no set end time for PSH rent assistance, tenants may no longer need services, may choose to leave, may no longer qualify for the services, or may be evicted.
The term PSH is applied to a number of models. The most effective models are those that integrate Housing First principles.
Different government agencies and organizations use different criteria for qualifying people for PSH. Those may include certain types of disabilities, frequency or length of homelessness, and income level.
